Social Preferences

Latinos, blacks, and whites use social networks about equally, but there are several differences in their personal preferences for specific social network sites. For example, Instagram is more popular among Latinos while Pinterest is more popular among whites, according to an overdue 2014 Pew Research Center survey. Today, about eight-in-ten Latino, black and white adults who're online use a minimum of one of five social networking websites Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Amongst these, Facebook stands out as the most commonly used platform, irrespective of race or ethnicity: Around seven-in-ten adult internet users say they use the website.

However, there are differences by race and ethnicity in using other social networking websites, especially Instagram. The photo-sharing website is more popular among black and Hispanic net users than among white net users. Approximately one-third of online Hispanics utilize Instagram, as do 38% of blacks. In contrast, only 21% of whites utilize the network. Instagrams popularity among younger adults is noteworthy. For example, approximately half of online adults ages 18 to 29 using the service, compared to 25% of people aged 30 to 49, 11% of those ages 50 to 64 and 6% of those 65 and older.

This is worth noting while looking at social networking usage by race and ethnicity because Latinos are substantially younger than other groups. Over a decade separates the average age of Latinos and whites, whilst the median age for blacks is 33. By contrast, the social network Site Pinterest is more popular among white net users than among other groups. About one-third of whites use Pinterest, compared to 21% of Hispanics and only 12% of blacks. LinkedIn stands out for the equal shares of whites and blacks Use the website, compared with 18% of Hispanics. In the meantime, Twitter has a more equal distribution.
